Simple Kimono-Style Cover Sewing Class

Create your own stylish and versatile kimono-style cover in this 5-hour sewing class! This project is perfect for newer sewists looking to build confidence, as well as more experienced makers interested in working with lighter, more delicate fabrics.

In this class, you’ll sew a customizable kimono-style cover that can be made in a longer, ankle-length version or a shorter, waist-length style. Designed for mid- to lightweight fabrics, this piece is perfect as a swimsuit cover-up or as an effortless extra layer to elevate any outfit.

Students will learn to work with both a standard sewing machine (using a straight stitch) and a serger to create clean, professional finishes. You’ll also be introduced to using bias tape to neatly finish edges—an essential technique for lightweight garment construction.

Prerequisite: StitchWorks Intro/Skill 1 class is required.

Sizing: Patterns are available in women’s sizes Small through Extra Large.
Fabric Requirements: Students must bring their own fabric. A minimum of 3 yards is required, with up to 5 yards needed for the long (ankle-length) version. Mid- to lightweight cotton is recommended for beginners, while lightweight or sheer fabrics are better suited for those with intermediate to advanced experience.

Whether you’re new to garment sewing or looking to refine your skills, you’ll leave this class with a beautiful, wearable piece and techniques you can use again and again!
