Designers: Why it’s Important to Clearly Draw Your Design

Drawing out a complete design is necessary, not because a pretty picture is needed, but it helps you solidify the design in your own mind. A design left as an idea in your mind has multiple forms until you settle on one, and can easily morph from one to another without you even realizing it (trust me, as a pattern maker, this is incredibly frustrating). The other thing is that you may realize, when sketching out the idea, that it physically can't work (or may not look right). Proportions may not work, the closure may not work, the transition from front to back may not make sense. You may not realize that without putting pen to paper.

Please, take the time to thoroughly think about and draw the design as best you can, on a body with human proportions.
